1.Cabriole-legged Furniture in the Style of Song and Yuan Dynasties
Abstract
Song and Yuan dynasties is a booming period of Chinese classical furniture, and the cabriole legs became a fashion style of the furniture of that time. In this article, we use the triple proof method of images, real objects and literature to give a comprehensive analysis of the basic forms, structures and ornament features of the cabriole-legged furniture in the Song and Yuan dynasties, and, by taking full advantage of the rich information offered by the image data and by analyzing the relationship between furniture and human behavior, and between furniture and living space, we try our best to restore the usage mode of the furniture.
2.A Study on Residential Behavior and Furniture Design
Abstract
Many furniture designers believe that, their designs can decide and change user behavior, and also that they can create new lifestyles. Designers, when designing furniture, imagine the residents' need, simply on the basis of personal experiences and feelings imposing them on the residents' experience. This kind of design, especially, of domestic furniture, goes far away from the actual needs of the inhabitants’. Considering this current situation, this article reports on a research that employed the method of Ethnomethodology to investigate the residential behavior in housing living context. Furthermore, using the theory of environmental behavior and psychology studies, the analysis will search for a deeper meaning of residential needs, and try to offer a new method for household furniture design catering the real needs of residents. The study observed 57 middle-class families living in urban housing environment, including 44 families in Beijing and 13 families in Helsinki. This article tries to understand the current living status and household furniture use, particularly inside the block flat environment in Chinese unban context through the method of participant observation, interviews, video-recoding and questionnaires. Ultimately, this article also proposes a design implementation and method in order improve the current living conditions. The research interests in1) how the furniture-environment entangled with the body of human being which beyond a ergonomic dimension 2) the sensory and performance on the inhabitants’ requests for the furniture,3)and people’s adaptability to furniture. The intensified living is an inevitable trend in future, so with a micro view of residence modality, the "moderate living" has more realistic meanings and feasibility. |
3.View of the Design Aesthetics in the Ecological Civilization
Abstract
In ecological civilization, we should liberate ourselves from the technology trap. Consequently, the current model of social development, which depends on consuming natural resources, must be changed, and the direction of design esthetics also should be modified from being based on human needs or pure esthetics, to make the harmony between human being and the nature. Sustainable design which accords with the perception of environmental esthetics is an extreme comprehensive system.
4. 노자의 공간 사상을 통한 전통 공간 연구 - 무위자연 사상을 중심으로
국문초록
노자 사상은 동양의 공간개념을 이해하는데 중요한 기본 틀의 하나라 할 수 있다. 노자는 ‘자연(自然)’에 대해 천착한 철학이라고 할 수 있다. ‘도법자연(道法自然), 즉 도는 자연을 본받는다.’ 라는 구절에서 알 수 있듯이 도(道)는 인위(人爲)가 아닌 항상 스스로 그러한 ‘무위(無爲)’로서 어떤 의지나 목적이 없다.무엇보다 노자는 공간철학자이다. 그의 도에 관한 특성들은 공간에 관한 개념들로 가득하다. 가득 차 있으면서도 비어있는 공간이란 모든 존재들이 유(有)와 무(無)로 혼(混) 즉, 섞여있는 공간이다. 이러한 ‘유무상생(有無相生)’의 공간은 어떤 특정하고 구체적인 모습이 아니라 다른 무엇으로 전이될 수 있는 모습으로 무한한 가능성을 지닌다. 또한 살아 생동하는 생명성과 계속해서 변화하는 다양성을 지닌 ‘황홀(恍惚)’한 공간이다. 본고에서는 노자의 공간 특성을 도(道)의 기능과 역할에서 찾아 해석하였다. 이는 의식적 노력이 아닌 무위(無爲)의 방법으로 이를 수 있으며 노자의 궁극적 도달점인 ‘무위자연(無爲自然)’의 공간은 펼연적으로 아름다울 수밖에 없다는 결론에 다다랐다. 노자의 철학적 사유가 구체적인 예술적 매개물로 구현되어 그 속에서 삶을 즐길 수 있는 예술 공간으로의 가능석이 모색된다.
Abstract
Above all, Lao-tzu is a space philosopher. His theory of Tao is full of concepts about space. Space that is full and empty at the same time is the space of “mixture", where everything is mixed by “being" and “non-being". This kind of space has the possibility to be changed into something with different figure, not something with certain concreteness. And it is the ecstatic space that has the vitality which is alive and moving, and the variety which keeps on changing.
This paper has analyzed Lao-tzu’s space property as an unlimited whole space by these function and role of Tao. The space can be reached by doing nothing, not by being aware to try to do anything. We have drawn a conclusion that Lao-tzu’s ultimated estination of “Idleness Naturalism” is inevitably beautilul. Lao-tzu’s philosophical thinking is embodied into a specific artistic media, and you can find that it can be the artistic space where we can enjoy life within.
따라서 본 연구를 통해 우리 한국의 고전철학과 그에 기초한 자연관의 형성이 어떠했는지를 살펴보고 이를 기본으로 삼아 나아가 디자인이나 건물 시공에 있어 보다 환경적이며 인간적, 자연적인 건물을 만들어 낼 수 있는 능력이 무엇일까를 알아보는데 그 목적이 있다.

This makes in basic and further there is to a design or building space-time and is more environmental and will can make the building which is human and natural and the ability will be what is the goal examines.
